A bright, clean Kenya with blackcurrant, rosehip and berry compote — the kind of coffee that feels like that early-morning moment when nothing has happened yet, but you already sense the day is going to be interesting.
It comes from the Muthuuzuni factory in Machakos County, south-east of Nairobi, where around 1,020 smallholder members each farm about half a hectare on red volcanic soils at 1300–1500 m. Established back in 1979, the washing station sits in a landscape of mountains and mixed farms, with a climate that swings between 13 and 26 °C.
After pulping, the coffee ferments overnight to break down the sugars, then travels through channels to the soaking tank, where it is carefully cleaned and soaked before being spread on raised beds. Drying takes 7–15 days, with constant hand-sorting and turning of the parchment.
The result is a clean, juicy cup with bright acidity and a lively berry profile — a great choice for anyone who loves Kenyan clarity.
